AFS Intercultural Programs Australia (AFS AUS) has been closely monitoring the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and the measures and actions by global health experts and government officials.

In light of these ongoing developments, AFS AUS is working with its parent entity – AFS Intercultural Programs – and its network partners to implement a coordinated plan to bring home participants where possible and safe.

AFS AUS is working individually with each participant and family to arrange for what is best for them. The safety and well-being of host families and our participants are always our highest priority.

AFS will continue to provide all program support and services to those participants that must remain under the care of the host family for the time being.

AFS AUS is currently hosting overseas students across Australia and  Australian students are being hosted overseas. Students have started to return home and we expect that remaining students will be returning home early from their AFS experience within the next 10 days.

We are all disappointed that because of the uncertainty and the rapidly changing nature of this global event that these steps have become necessary, and thank our participants and their families, host families and our many volunteers for their understanding.

Regular updates with more specific detail can be found on the website of AFS Intercultural Programs at https://afs.org/news-events/. Families and participants are encouraged to contact the AFS AUS office on 02 9215 0077 if they have any questions.
