Our program took place in West Sumatra, first in the village of Koto Sani in Solok then the city of Bukittinggi. AIYEP is one of those intense, unforgettable experiences that really stays with you. Despite the passing of years, I still keep in touch with my host families and close friends from the program. AIYEP renewed my passion for Indonesia and encouraged me to keep developing my language ability. It reaffirmed for me the immense value of grass roots, people-to-people relationships in bridging perceived differences and overcoming barriers to cooperation between countries.
