The Philippines is the third largest English speaking country in the world. It has a rich history combining Asian, European, and American influences. Prior to Spanish colonization in 1521, the Filipinos had a rich culture and were trading with the Chinese and the Japanese. Spain’s colonization brought about the construction of Intramuros in 1571, a “Walled City” comprised of European buildings and churches, replicated in different parts of the archipelago. In 1898, after 350 years and 300 rebellions, the Filipinos, with leaders like Jose Rizal and Emilio Aguinaldo, succeeded in winning their independence.

This program features a combination of a school and service learning programs, encouraging participants to be academically inclined while helping their local communities. This is an opportunity to create more, inspire more and discover more!

High School Program Plus covers a 25-hour Service Learning Program with the help of our local volunteers in the hosting chapters. Participants are encourage to create their own projects, which must be inspired by different social issues and/or be incorporated by Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). In this way, it helps participants to discover more of the culture of their host communities.

AFS Philippines will be providing a Certificate of Completoin of each participant who has successfully attended his school and rendered community service. There are 2 key requirements to complete this program: a Project Proposal where the students state their ideas for the Service Learning Program, and a Reflectoin Paper which documents the whole project.
