A Romantic Riverside Park in New York City Offers Sunny Benches and Stunning Skyline Views

New York City has many defining features: famous landmarks, world-class theater, and fashion, to name a few. It also has a reputation for being a city of romance, which is likely why many romantic films take place in New York City — in fact, you can visit the iconic spots from these movies yourself. And while many of us dream of falling in love at the Empire State Building à la “Sleepless in Seattle,” there are many more romantic locations to discover in Manhattan. One such spot is Sutton Place Park.

This quiet, lesser-known park is located along the East River between East 56th and 57th Streets, just one mile from Central Park, famous for being the best tourist attraction in America. The park had its moment in the spotlight when it was featured in Woody Allen’s 1979 classic film “Manhattan.” Sitting on one of the many benches at the park, visitors are treated to stunning views of the East River, the Queensboro Bridge, and much more.

Sutton Place Park was created in 1938 after the Sutton Place area was revitalized. The park boasts striking art pieces including a replica of Wild Boar, a Renaissance-era statue originally created in 1634 by sculptor Pietro Tacca. It is the perfect spot for a dreamy afternoon in the city, much like the High Line Canal, widely regarded as New York City’s most scenic trail.

Enjoy a romantic outing at Sutton Place Park

Sutton Place Park is not as expansive as other parks in the city as it was originally a privately-owned residential terrace. However, it features many areas for visitors to relax and soak in the park’s highlight — its stunning views of the water. The calming vistas may even inspire you to escape the hustle of Manhattan and explore the city’s hidden islands, such as Roosevelt Island, which is visible from the park.

Located in Sutton Place, a well-established, upscale community that dates back over a century, Sutton Place Park is a short walk from many of the community’s most romantic restaurants. Mr. Chow has been a Sutton Place institution since the late 1970s, and fashion legend Givenchy once called the restaurant a “Precious Jewel Box.” Bistro Vendôme, with its open-air terrace and French cuisine, brings romantic European flair to the neighborhood.

Sutton Place Park is regularly maintained by the Sutton Place Parks Conservancy. Along with preserving its beauty, the Conservancy also hosts public events at the park throughout the year, including holiday season light shows, off-Broadway performances, live concerts, and more. Keep your eyes peeled on the events calendar so that you don’t miss out.

If you are looking for the perfect spot for a romantic stroll, Sutton Place Park is a must. Why settle for dinner and a show in Times Square when you can enjoy it in the great outdoors surrounded by New York City’s most iconic views?
