The Best ChatGPT Prompts for Sleeping Well While Traveling Abroad

Jet lag can derail even the most eagerly anticipated vacation. Crossing multiple time zones can seriously disrupt your body’s internal clock which leads to fatigue, sleeplessness, and often difficulty enjoying your travels. The challenge of adapting to new environments, unfamiliar sounds, sights, languages, smells, and schedules, all while battling a turned-around circadian rhythm can make exploring a new destination feel all too overwhelming, especially after long-haul flights.

For many travelers, the struggle to stay awake or asleep at the right time overshadows the excitement and enthusiasm of the beginning of their trip, and if your trip is short, this is even more problematic. The effects of jet lag are widespread, with most people who cross multiple time zones experiencing symptoms that can last for many days, so finding useful strategies to minimize jet lag’s impact is a top priority for frequent flyers.

Some savvy travelers are turning to ChatGPT to improve their sleep while traveling abroad. For those who don’t know, ChatGPT is an online learning language model developed by OpenAI that has been trained on huge amounts of public and private databases. It is capable of responding to user questions and prompts on myriad topics like language translations, creative ideas, and even travel solutions. By inputting specific prompts, travelers are able to use this tool to craft personalized sleep plans to reduce jet lag’s deleterious effects and enjoy their travels from day one.

How ChatGPT is helping travelers reduce their jet lag

By using hyper-specific prompts travelers are able to leverage ChatGPT’s ability to suggest sleep strategies for their flights. For example, Instagram user @insideoursuitcase shared success on an 18-hour flight from London to Taiwan with a layover in Bangkok. They gave the learning language model all the details of their travel arrangements: departure time, travel duration, and arrival time at their destination. They then asked ChatGPT for advice on sleep. They wanted to know when and how long they should sleep so they could beat jet lag. They followed the advice ChatGPT gave them and reported, “the least jet lagged they’ve ever been.” Noting they will definitely use this strategy again.

Another avid traveler and LinkedIn user was able to find similar results by giving the AI tool their flight itinerary and the following prompt: “Please analyse this travel itinerary from Australia to the US and devise a sleep plan on the various flights to minimize the impact of jet lag when I arrive in the US.” Others report having success with similar style prompt by giving ChatGPT their entire travel itinerary, and asking what schedule they should keep to avoid jet lag. Many say the advice the learning language model gave worked better than expected. Those who had success highlighted the importance of clarity specificity in prompt generation like, “What’s the best clothing to wear on a plane for a more comfortable flight?”
